What is AIM?
Accessible Instructional Materials=AIM
Federal statutes, including civil rights legislation, and statutes in several states, have created compelling mandates for states and districts to ensure that students with disabilities access, participate, and achieve in the general educational curriculum (IDEA 2004).
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 requires that State Education Agencies (SEAs) and/or Local Education Agencies (LEAs) "will provide instructional materials to blind persons or other persons with print disabilities in a timely manner" (Part B, Sec. 612(a)(23)(B) and Sec. 613(a)(6)(B)).

Where do we begin?
The AIM Navigator is an interactive tool that facilitates the process of decision-making around accessible instructional materials for an individual student. The four major decision points in the process include 1) determination of need, 2) selection of format(s), 3) acquisition of format(s), and 4) selection of supports for use. The AIM Navigator also includes a robust set of guiding questions and useful references and resources specifically related to each decision point.
